Sigenergy warranty: how long a SigenStor battery lasts, and what keeps it covered

The Sigenergy warranty is where the honest answer to “how long will my battery last?” sits. Sigenergy’s warranty and datasheet don’t give a lifespan in years. Instead there’s a product warranty, a performance promise with a usage cap, and conditions that can shorten both. This guide covers each one from Sigenergy’s own documents, checked on 2 November 2026.
We fit SigenStor across Devon and Cornwall from our base near Okehampton, and Sigenergy’s Find an Installer map lists us as an “Authorized Installer”. You can read about our work as a Sigenergy installer separately.
Which version of the warranty this guide quotes
Sigenergy publishes a “Factory Limited Warranty for SigenStor (For Europe)”. It doesn’t name the UK, and more than one version is in circulation, so check the footer date on your own copy.
We quote the version on Sigenergy’s own file server with the footer date 11/07/2026, the July 2026 version. An older one dated 8/21/2024 (August 2024) is still hosted by a UK distributor, and Sigenergy’s text warns that a copy “may NOT be the latest version”. The differences that matter:
| August 2024 version | July 2026 version | |
|---|---|---|
| Battery performance | 70% of usable energy for 10 years, or a throughput cap | 60% for 10 years, or a throughput cap |
| Throughput cap, 5 kWh module | 15.85 MWh (output energy) | 18.20 MWh (throughput energy) |
| Going offline | A reminder after a month, 10 years at risk after an extended period, 5 years always provided | Safe Operation Mode after 90 days, 5 years after over a year offline in total |
| Homes near the sea | Excluded within 500 m of the coastline or in areas affected by sea winds | No coastal exclusion listed |
What the Sigenergy warranty covers, part by part
Sigenergy warrants the electronics and enclosure against defects caused by improper workmanship or defective materials. For a SigenStor, the periods are:
| Part | Warranty |
|---|---|
| Sigen Battery modules (SigenStor BAT, all four module sizes) | 10 years |
| Sigen Energy Controller, single-phase and three-phase | 10 years |
| SigenStor BC battery controller | 10 years |
| SigenStor EV DC charging module | 3 years |
| Light strips in the decorative cover | 2 years |
| Sigen Energy Gateway, home models | 5 years (wear-prone parts 2) |
The gateway figure comes from Sigenergy’s separate inverter warranty (footer date 10/04/2026). The SigenStor periods apply to equipment installed on or after 1 June 2023, and cover starts the day the system is activated on site, or 180 days after it left the factory if it hasn’t been installed, activated and registered by then.
How long does a SigenStor battery last?
Three numbers get quoted, each measuring something different:
- 10 years is the product warranty, the period in which Sigenergy puts right a covered defect.
- 60% of usable energy is the performance promise: at least that for 10 years after installation, or until a minimum throughput, whichever comes first.
- 10,000 cycles is on the BAT 6.0 and 10.0 datasheet, which says the cell maker supplied it, from cell tests at 25 °C (±2 °C), a 0.5C rate and 60% state of health.
The cycle figure describes cells under test, the warranty what Sigenergy stands behind in your home. Neither is a switch-off date.
Usable energy, for that promise, is measured by Sigenergy’s own constant-current test at 25 to 28 °C. Our guide to depth of discharge explains how much of a battery’s capacity you can use.
The throughput cap in plain numbers
Sigenergy sets a “Minimum Throughput Energy” for each module, counted from the warranty start date and recorded in the product’s control module:
| Module | Usable energy | Throughput cap | Cap ÷ usable energy |
|---|---|---|---|
| SigenStor BAT 5.0 | 5.2 kWh | 18.20 MWh | 3,500 |
| SigenStor BAT 6.0 | 5.84 kWh | 20.44 MWh | 3,500 |
| SigenStor BAT 8.0 | 7.8 kWh | 27.30 MWh | 3,500 |
| SigenStor BAT 10.0 | 8.76 kWh | 30.66 MWh | 3,500 |
The last column is our arithmetic. On every module the cap is 3,500 times its usable energy, so by our sum a module emptied from full every day would pass that much out in about 9.6 years. The July 2026 wording doesn’t say how throughput is counted (the August 2024 version called it output energy), so treat that as a guide. A home that draws less from the battery each day uses the allowance more slowly. We size solar battery storage for your home to your evenings.
Stay online, or 10 years becomes 5
The July 2026 version says that to activate and keep the 10-year limited warranty, “your device must remain connected to the Internet for essential firmware updates”. Then:
-
After more than 90 days offline, the system automatically enters Safe Operation Mode, and Sigenergy reserves the right to change technical specifications and operating parameters in that mode without notice.
-
After more than a year offline in total, cover adjusts to 5 years from the original activation date. The year is cumulative, so short gaps add up.
-
A claim on a system with no connection needs an on-site inspection and data collection under Sigenergy’s instruction.
After a new router or Wi-Fi password, check the system still shows online. Our guide to the mySigen app covers what to do if it shows offline.
What Sigenergy won’t cover
The warranty pays for replacement hardware, the labour to repair, remove and refit parts on site, and normal ground shipping. It doesn’t cover travel and accommodation for the visit unless Sigenergy agrees in writing first, or electricity lost while the system is down. If a fault isn’t covered, Sigenergy can charge a handling fee. The general exclusions include:
-
Damage from an installation that didn’t follow the installation instructions.
-
Damage from use that doesn’t follow the user manual.
-
Disassembly, repairs or replacement parts by anyone Sigenergy hasn’t authorised.
-
Storm damage, lightning, over-voltage, fire, flooding and pests.
-
Software, parts or other products not supplied by Sigenergy.
-
Running the equipment outside its temperature range.
-
Rust on the enclosure caused by harsh environmental conditions.
-
Cosmetic wear that doesn’t affect how it works, vandalism and theft.
The warranty also says it doesn’t exclude or limit your statutory rights under national law.
Homes near the coast in Devon and Cornwall
Sigenergy’s SigenStor Home user manuals (single-phase version 04, May 2024, and three-phase version 05, December 2024) say the equipment “should be installed in an area that is at least 500 m away from corrosion sources that may result in salt damage or acid damage”, and the seaside is the first source they name.
The August 2024 warranty excluded equipment within 500 metres of the coastline or in areas affected by sea winds. The July 2026 version drops that line, but still excludes rust on the enclosure from harsh environmental conditions, and damage from installations that don’t follow the instructions. If your home is close to the coast, tell us at the survey, before anything is ordered. If another system would suit you better, we’ll say so.
Making a claim, step by step
Claims start in the mySigen app. Sigenergy asks you to raise a service ticket through the app’s “support” menu, which generally collects these details automatically:
-
Your contact details.
-
The model, serial number, installation date and failure date.
-
Any error message, what troubleshooting was tried and any earlier problems.
Claim within 30 days of the failure date, or Sigenergy treats the right to claim as abandoned. It asks you to treat its distributors, installers and service partners as its default service channel. Once it confirms a covered defect, it can fix it with configuration changes, software updates or new parts, or replace the unit with a new, factory-refurbished or equivalent upgraded one. If you’re not sure it’s a fault, our repairs and fault-finding service starts by finding the cause, on systems we didn’t fit as well as our own.
Selling up, and the optional extended warranty
The warranty can pass from the original owner to the next owner only if the equipment is still installed in its original location. Keep the activation date, serial numbers and warranty with the house paperwork. Our guide to selling a house with solar panels covers the rest of the pack.
Sigenergy also publishes an optional Factory Extended Warranty for Europe (footer date 31/08/2025). It adds 5 years to the Sigen Battery and Energy Controller, must be bought and activated within 12 months of the start date, and can’t take total cover past 15 years. Its performance promise is 60% of usable energy for 15 years or a higher throughput cap, such as 24.58 MWh for a BAT 6.0, and it too depends on staying online.
What you can do to protect your cover

None of this involves opening anything:
-
Keep it online, and check the app after any broadband or router change.
-
Recharge a flat battery promptly. The datasheet says it “must be recharged within 7 days after being fully discharged to keep battery healthy”. A second home left empty with the router off risks both this and the offline rule, so tell us about long empty spells.
-
Keep it cool and clear. The warranty recommends a battery working temperature of 10 to 30 °C, and the manual says the higher the temperature, the shorter the service life. Don’t cover the decorative cover or block the 300 to 600 mm space it needs to shed heat.
-
Never clean it with water. The manual rules out water, alcohol and oil, and lists a three-monthly look that the cover isn’t blocked or dirty, and a six-monthly check for damage or odd noises.
-
Let only authorised people work on it, and report faults within 30 days.
Our workmanship warranty sits alongside Sigenergy’s

Sigenergy’s warranty covers the equipment. Our own 10-year workmanship warranty covers the installation work our team does. Every installation also includes a year of The Solar Owners Club, with an annual system health check, a dedicated support line, and help keeping your system working in line with the manufacturer’s guidelines. Our guide to why owners join the club explains what members get.
Weighing up the warranty before you buy
For most homes, the conditions that decide the Sigenergy warranty are the ones you control: keep the system online, keep it charged, keep it cool and let only authorised people work on it. The throughput cap matters more if you empty the battery every day, and the coastal guidance matters if you live near the sea. We fit SigenStor for homes around Exeter and right across Devon and Cornwall, and we’ll go through the July 2026 Sigenergy warranty terms with you before you decide.
