EcoFlow PowerOcean, designed around how you use electricity

EcoFlow PowerOcean is a modular home battery system: an inverter that manages your solar panels and battery together, with battery packs you can add over time. Our own team designs and fits EcoFlow PowerOcean across Devon and Cornwall, with new solar panels or alongside panels you already have. We size it around how your household uses electricity, starting with what you need now.

Specifications and warranty

EcoFlow PowerOcean in the maker’s own figures.

EcoFlow PowerOcean is one of the battery systems we design with and fit.

  1. Single-phase invertersFive models rated from 3 to 6 kilowatts (kW): 3,000, 3,680, 4,600, 5,000 and 6,000 watts.enterprise-service-eu-cdn.ecoflow.com
  2. Battery packEach PowerOcean LFP (lithium iron phosphate) pack holds 5.1 kilowatt-hours (kWh) nominal and 4.8 kWh usable, at a 95% depth of discharge that can vary in the cold.enterprise-service-eu-cdn.ecoflow.com
  3. Three-phase6, 8, 10 and 12 kW inverters, starting from one 5 kWh battery; EcoFlow’s page says “expandable up to 45kWh”.energy.ecoflow.com
  4. PowerOcean PlusThree-phase models of 15, 20, 25 and 29.9 kW, which EcoFlow labels “House / Light Commercial”.energy.ecoflow.com
  5. Existing solarEcoFlow’s installation guide says PowerOcean works with any single- or three-phase grid-tied solar system; if the existing inverter feeds in less than about 200 W, the battery is not charged.enterprise-service-eu-cdn.ecoflow.com
  6. Backup switchoverWith the EcoFlow Gateway (Single-Phase), EcoFlow states a “0 ms” load-side switchover for PowerOcean Single-phase, under the test conditions it publishes.energy.ecoflow.com
  7. Weather ratingThe single-phase inverter and battery are rated IP65 against dust and water and work from minus 20 °C to 50 °C; the inverter reduces output above 40 °C or below 0 °C.enterprise-service-eu-cdn.ecoflow.com
  8. WarrantyEcoFlow’s UK pages state a 15-year warranty; the policy shown there covers the battery for 15 years or 6,000 charge and discharge cycles, whichever comes first, keeping at least 70% of nominal capacity.energy.ecoflow.com

Modular storage

What EcoFlow PowerOcean is

PowerOcean pairs a hybrid inverter with stackable battery packs, each holding the usable energy shown in the table above, in kilowatt-hours (kWh). EcoFlow’s UK site lists three versions, so the system can match your property’s electricity supply.

It suits a household that would like to start with a modest battery and add to it, because EcoFlow says new packs work alongside existing ones. We begin with how you use electricity: the daytime surplus you could store, and the evenings you would use it. Our page on how battery storage works covers the basics; to compare, Sigenergy’s SigenStor is our premium option.

  • PowerOcean Single-phase: for a single-phase supply, in the five inverter sizes listed above.
  • PowerOcean Three-phase: for a three-phase supply, in four inverter sizes, and it can begin with a single battery pack.
  • PowerOcean Plus: larger three-phase models, which EcoFlow aims at houses and light commercial use.

With your panels

Adding PowerOcean to solar you already have

Starting from scratch, we design your solar panel installation and the PowerOcean battery together, so each part suits the others from the first day.

If you already have panels, you can keep them: the installation guide quoted in the table above covers grid-tied solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on both single- and three-phase supplies. We check your current equipment before recommending anything, and our page on fitting a battery to your existing solar panels covers the process. In the guide’s terms:

  • your existing system connects to the PowerOcean inverter’s GRID terminal
  • its output supplies your home first, then charges the battery
  • if its output falls below the level in the table above, the battery takes no charge

Two warranties

PowerOcean’s warranty, kept separate from ours

EcoFlow’s UK pages give PowerOcean a 15-year warranty. That is EcoFlow’s product warranty, separate from our own 10-year workmanship warranty, which covers our installation work. The policy shown on EcoFlow’s UK site is written for Europe, and the full document is worth reading alongside your quote.

TermWhat the warranty says
Inverters15 years for the PowerOcean hybrid inverter, single- and three-phase, and for the PowerOcean Plus inverter.
BatteryCover ends at whichever limit in the table above comes first, years or charge cycles, and warrants no less than 70% of nominal capacity when used between minus 20 °C and 50 °C.
Gateway10 years for the EcoFlow Gateway (Single-Phase).
Staying onlineMore than a year disconnected cuts the warranty to five years.
Start dateThe earlier of commissioning or nine months after production.

Fitted and looked after

How our team fits and supports it

Every PowerOcean we fit goes through the four steps below, each handled by our own team. If your system needs approval from National Grid before we can connect it, known as a G99 application, we handle the application for you and keep you updated while we wait for their response.

At handover, we show you how PowerOcean works and how to follow it in the app, and your first year of The Solar Owners Club begins. When you’re ready to start, get in touch with our team.

  • Survey: free, with a no-obligation quote, looking at your roof’s orientation, shading and space; a copy of your electricity bill helps.
  • Design: panels and battery options worked out in Easy PV Pro, including how many packs to start with.
  • Installation: our own DBS-checked team; homes usually take one to three days.
  • Aftercare: an annual system health check and a dedicated support line through The Solar Owners Club.

Alternatives

The other makers we fit.

We are not loyal to a box. At the survey we look at your roof, your supply and your evenings, and recommend the maker whose equipment suits them.

  • Sigenergy

SigenStor: Sigenergy’s “5-in-One” inverter and battery stack.

  • Fox ESS

H1-G2 inverters are “Battery Ready”: add storage later, no redesign.

EcoFlow PowerOcean: your questions.

All our FAQs

OCEAN 2 is a newer range on EcoFlow’s UK site, listed alongside PowerOcean. It includes OCEAN 2 Single-Phase, OCEAN 2 Plus Single-Phase and OCEAN 2 Three-Phase, with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries of 5 kWh and 8 kWh. The system we fit is PowerOcean; ask us about OCEAN 2 at your survey.

Each PowerOcean battery pack holds 5.1 kWh nominal, of which 4.8 kWh is usable. The three-phase system can grow to 45 kWh, by EcoFlow’s figure. We size the first stage around your household, not the maximum.

It can, where backup is included and suitable. With the EcoFlow Gateway fitted, the single-phase system’s switchover time is zero milliseconds under EcoFlow’s published test conditions, as the table above notes; for the three-phase system, its manual says backup loads switch over “within 20ms”. We’ll tell you plainly whether yours can.

EcoFlow’s single-phase datasheet rates the inverter and battery for dust, water and temperature as the table above shows, and the battery can stand on the floor or mount on a wall. We agree the right spot with you at the survey.

Let’s talk about your project

If EcoFlow PowerOcean sounds like the right battery for your home, let’s start with the way your household uses electricity. We’ll explain how many packs would make sense now, how the system could grow, and whether backup is suitable for you. Call us, or use the form below, to arrange your free site survey.
