Farms
Solar panels for farms, designed around your daytime load
We design and install solar panels for farms across Devon and Cornwall, from our base at Allerford Farm near Okehampton. From the milking parlour to the farmhouse, we’ll look at when you use electricity and where solar and storage could help, on barn roofs or ground-mounted, and our own team carries out the installation.

Daytime load
Solar for farms starts with your daytime load
Farms use electricity to their own routine, and much of it is needed in daylight, when solar panels generate. The more of that output the farm uses as it’s made, the less it buys from the grid. So we start with your bills and your working day, and design around your daytime load rather than the size of the roof.
Milking
Milking keeps to a routine, and a routine can be designed around: generation through the day, with storage for the sessions outside daylight hours.
Refrigeration
Cooling runs day and night, so it can use solar electricity whenever the panels are generating, with a battery carrying some of the load after dark.
Ventilation
Fans in livestock and storage buildings often run through the working day, in the same hours your panels are producing.
Other loads
Workshops, pumps and the rest of the farm’s daytime use all count towards the load we design around.
Roof or field
Barn roofs and ground-mounted arrays
A barn roof can carry a large array, and our own team fits them, like the barn roof array pictured. Before we recommend anything, the free site survey takes a full look at the farm’s buildings, energy use, roof space and your goals, including orientation and shading, and we’ll advise if any permissions are needed.
Where a roof isn’t suitable, a ground-mounted system on open ground can be, and we’ll talk through the options with you on the farm.
We cover farms in every part of both counties. For local detail, see solar panels in Devon and solar installation across Cornwall.

Make your roof earn its keep.
A barn roof is space the farm already has. Solar puts it to work.
Storage and resilience
Battery storage for the farm
A battery stores what your panels make beyond the farm’s daytime needs, ready for later in the day or overnight. We size it in kWh (kilowatt-hours, the energy it can hold) and kW (kilowatts, the power it can deliver at once) to your loads, as we do for solar battery storage at home.
- Early and late loads, met from stored daytime generation where that suits your routine.
- Round-the-clock cooling, with the battery taking over from the panels after dark.
- Operating costs, because every unit you generate and use on the farm is one you don’t buy from the grid.
- Resilience, with less reliance on the grid for the loads that matter most to the farm.
- Backup power where it’s included and suitable. We’ll tell you plainly whether your system can keep chosen circuits running in a power cut.
The makers we fit
Equipment for larger sites
We’re not loyal to a box. A farm system may need three-phase equipment or more storage than a home, and we choose it from the makers we fit, around your loads.
Sigenergy
Our premium option. Its energy controllers come in single-phase and three-phase versions, and several SigenStor systems can run in parallel on commercial sites. See Sigenergy for larger systems.
EcoFlow PowerOcean
PowerOcean comes in single-phase and three-phase versions, and EcoFlow labels its PowerOcean Plus for house and light commercial use. See EcoFlow PowerOcean and PowerOcean Plus.
Fox ESS
Fox ESS makes three-phase hybrid inverters for larger sites, and lists agricultural estates among example sites for its commercial battery storage. See Fox ESS three-phase systems.
The process
How a farm project runs
One team from the first conversation to the handover. Arrange a site survey on the farm to begin, or call us on 07441 369 505.
Talk it through
We begin with your bills, your routine and your plans for the farm, so the design follows how you actually use electricity. You can send us recent bills beforehand.
Site survey
We visit for a free site survey, checking orientation, shading and space on barn roofs, other buildings and open ground.
Design and quote
We design the system around your loads, working out the panels and the battery options, then set out a no-obligation quote with the estimated savings for your use. Sometimes the right answer is more battery capacity rather than more panels.
Approvals
Larger systems may need approval from National Grid before we can connect them. This is called a G99 application. We handle the application for you and keep you updated while we wait for their response.
Installation
Our own installation team carries out the work. Larger projects take a little longer than a home’s one to three days.
Aftercare
At handover we show you how to follow the system in the app, and your year of The Solar Owners Club begins, with an annual system health check and a dedicated support line.
Beyond the farmyard
The farmhouse and the business, too
Homes
The farmhouse can have its own system, designed around household use and the evenings, with battery storage to carry the daytime surplus into the night. See solar panels for the farmhouse.
Solar panelsBusinesses
Farm shops, workshops and other businesses on the land are covered by our commercial solar panels work, planned around operating hours and daytime demand, across most of England.

Reviews
In our customers’ words.
-
Excellent service. Polite and friendly while carrying out the work. Very knowledgeable about their trade. After care five star too. Very helpful for helping me set up the app. I can't recommend them enough. Thank you for stress free and a lovely service.
Andrew B. Customer -
Adam and Ellie are great to work with; they use sensible technology and are reasonably priced. Very pleased with everything they have done for me.
John K. Customer -
They fitted my panels, kept me informed about the process and Ellie and Adam are passionate about all that they do, great service at a great price.
Chris & Debbie G. Customer -
I couldn’t rate the quality and professionalism any higher.
Jon H. Google -
Finally, someone who responds, listens and helps in the solar world. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
M&J, Somerset Owners Club member -
Chuffed to bits with our upgraded system - working better than ever! Thanks guys.
P&M, Devon Owners Club member -
We've already saved the full membership cost in our battery upgrade alone! Great value for money.

In most cases, planning permission isn’t required. However, exceptions apply in conservation areas or on listed buildings. We’ll advise you during your survey if permissions are needed.
Yes. We offer custom solutions for flat roofs and ground-mounted systems — ideal for farms, commercial premises, or properties without suitable roof space.
Often, yes. Before a larger system is connected, National Grid may need to approve it, through what’s known as a G99 application. We make the application on your behalf and let you know how it’s going until they reply.
Yes. A battery holds on to the daytime surplus until the evening or overnight, including for loads that run after dark, such as cooling. Backup power is only possible where it’s part of the design and the system suits it; we’ll say plainly whether yours can provide it.
A year’s membership comes with every installation: a health check on your system once a year, plus a dedicated support line. After the first year, membership continues by system size, measured at the inverter: up to 20 kW, 20 to 50 kW, or over 50 kW.
